About half of all pregnant women experience symptoms of gastric disease, in some cases when they have a test, they find out they have a stomach infection and are extremely worried. So is this situation dangerous and is there any way to prevent it?

Signs of Gastrointestinal complications during pregnancy

Most symptoms of stomach illness are easy to confuse with morning sickness symptoms in pregnancy. When a baby is just starting to form, it's time for hormonal changes in the mother's body. These hormones have a protective effect on the baby's development but inadvertently cause little trouble for the mother and one of them is reflux symptoms like gastric disease. Mothers may have nausea, vomiting, indigestion, belching, heartburn, a burning sensation in the upper part of the navel, and even some mothers with severe vomiting also have a burning sensation in the throat caused by gastric acid. . Most of these symptoms are normal during pregnancy and there is nothing to worry about, unless the mother experiences excessive vomiting that affects her and her baby's nutrition. However, the mother should be careful and pay attention to visit in some cases suggesting gastric disease below:

  • Previous history of gastric disease.
  • Symptoms of pain, burning in the epigastrium often.
  • Vomiting of blood
  • Bloody stools or black stools
  • Iron deficiency anemia that after iron supplementation with drugs still does not improve.

Every pregnant mom needs a healthy, joyful pregnancy.

Tests to diagnose stomach pain during pregnancy

When the above symptoms occur, the first thing a mother needs to do is to visit an obstetrician to make sure that her pregnancy is normal. If the mother's signs suggest gastric disease, obstetricians can recommend a gastroenterology specialist. Here, Mom can do some tests to check:

Endoscopy: although the laparoscopy technique is quite safe, it is an invasive procedure anyway so it is very limited for pregnant women. Very few pregnancies are indicated for endoscopy, unless it is a severe case, with gastrointestinal bleeding or other complications. The rest of the colonoscopy is mostly delayed until the mother is born.

Hp bacteria test: it can be blood test, breath test, stool test or clotest (if endoscopy). Among the above tests, it is recommended that mothers should perform C13 breathing test because this test is highly accurate and safe. In some settings where there is no condition for breathing tests, blood testing is acceptable if the mother has never had eradication of Hp before. Stool test is rarely done in adults due to the inconvenience.

Is there an HP infection during pregnancy?

Some mothers were very bewildered and worried when they held a positive Hp test in their hand. In fact, a positive Hp means that the mother is infected with a bacterium called Helicobacter pylori in the stomach. Most cases of Hp infection do not have a health problem but about 20% of those infected with Hp may have gastrointestinal or other conditions outside the digestive tract. In pregnant women, although uncommon, Hp bacteria can cause serious consequences such as: digestive disorders, nutrient deficiencies that cause anemia, fetal growth retardation, neural tube defects. seizures, pre-eclampsia, miscarriage ...

Is HP virus transmitted from mother to child during pregnancy?

Studies show that during pregnancy Hp is almost not transmitted from mother to child. The main route of infection with Hp is through the gastrointestinal tract, when the baby is born and comes into contact with the mother. The risk of Hp infection in the family, especially from mother to child, is very high, mainly from the mother's habit of feeding and kissing babies. These are unscientific habits that mothers should abandon to not only avoid HP infection but also avoid many other dangerous pathogens for their children.

How to deal with HP infection during pregnancy

Unlike normal cases of HP infection, pregnant women cannot use the HP eradication regimen because the drugs in the regimen can affect the fetus. The optimal solution is probably to produce a vaccine to prevent Hp infection before HP infection, but developing Hp vaccine is very difficult and scientists are still on the way to perfecting the solution. it's France.
