Influenza vaccine helps protect the body from seasonal flu for 1 year. For every 10 people who get the vaccine, it effectively protects 7-8 people. But if the vaccine does not match the flu that is expected to circulate that year, the protection rate will be lower. 

According to Dr. Do Duc Tin, Department of Physical Examination, adults and children need to get the seasonal flu vaccine before the flu season of that year and should get it as soon as possible when the year's vaccine is available.

 In Vietnam, according to influenza epidemiological research, influenza epidemic usually appears year-round, peaking in March, April, September and October each year. The vaccine should be given about 2 weeks to 1 month before the flu season.

 For women planning to become pregnant, it is best to get the flu vaccine before getting pregnant. If you are in the seasonal flu but didn't get the shot before you became pregnant, you can still get the inactivated flu vaccine in the third trimester. Pregnant women are at high risk for complications from influenza and the flu vaccine is inactivated so can be given during pregnancy.

For children who are susceptible to influenza viruses, the flu vaccine should be given to children aged 6 months.
