A 55-year-old patient, L.T.L, Binh Duong province got admitted to City International Hospital for weight loss checkup, found three very large Precancerous colorectal polyps and was successfully treated with Polypectomy during Colonoscopy.

October 30, 2019, Ms. L.T.L went to City International Hospital for examination with symptoms for 02 months losing 3 kg, rectal bleeding and heartburn. Previously, because she was too nervous, she went to the colonoscopy to find large polyps in the colorectal. At City International Hospital, through colonoscopy, the patient was diagnosed with large dysplastic adenomatous polyps with two mall polyps of the rectum and sigmoid colon polyps and one large rectal polyps. To avoid the risk of polyps developing into cancer, City International Hospital doctors have ordered endoscopic rectal resection surgery for patients.

At 9:00 am on October 31, 2019, the patient was treated by the team of GI surgeons, City International Hospital to remove a segment of precancerous colon. After 04 hours of surgery, the doctor removed a 20cm-long colorectal segment containing a tumor consisting of 2 small polyps of 1cm size in the sigma colon and 1 large polyp in the rectum of 3 cm size

Postoperative pathology revealed that both rectal polyps and sigma colon were altitude dysplasia which were considered a precancerous. 6 November 2019,  the patient was discharged. after her vital signs and physical assessment went excellent,

Talking with patients, 06 years ago in 2013 -, Ms. L. went to a large hospital in Ho Chi Minh City when she discovered polyps in her stomach. At this time, the doctors performed a Polypectomy. However, in 2016, she found that her stomach was still in pain, so when she went to the doctor again, found polyps with high-grade dysplasia. At this time, she was assisted by Assoc. After the tumor was removed, the surgery performed well. Despite 06 lymph nodes but no lymph node metastases. “Fortunately, the patient is not subjective to health, regular examination, detecting polyps in the early stage has not developed into cancer, so after surgery and treatment, the patient can recover completely. If surgery is not done soon, after a few years, it is likely that the lymph nodes have metastasized at this time, the treatment will be more expensive and difficult, ”explained Dr. Cuong.

Dr. Cuong emphasized that colorectal cancer is no longer a death sentence and is no longer a gloomy picture if patients are screened and treated early. Therefore, annual visits are very important. As in the case of Mrs. L., due to early detection of polyps and timely intervention, colorectal cancer can be completely cured, preventing the tumor from developing into cancer. After surgery, she did not need any chemotherapy or radiation therapy.

For patients who have had colorectal surgery, Dr. Cuong recommends that you maintain a healthy lifestyle, absolutely do not use stimulants such as alcohol, tobacco. Do not eat sour, spicy, carbonated soft drinks. Patients need to add green vegetables, fruits and exercise regularly to have good health, fight off disease, and extend life expectancy.
