Life is getting busier, leaving us little to no time for family and children. Children also ride down the learning curve early, making the most important of which are hot family meals and outdoor physical activity which seem to be limited as well. Excessive intake of fast food, soft drinks and candy are considered major factors leading to childhood overweight and obesity.

In Vietnam, the prevalence of Ow/Ob among children has also increased rapidly in the last decade, especially in urban areas. In 1996, the rate of obese children in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City was 12%, after 13 years (in 2009) this rate reached 43%. Survey results in 2014-2015, the proportion of obese children in Ho Chi Minh City is over 50%, while in the Hanoi urban area is about 41%.

So what can we do to prevent childhood obesity? Let’s join Dr. Nguyen Thi Dan Thanh, MD MS in Medical Nutrition from City International Hospital in her nutrition consultation online program, topic on “OVERWEIGHT/OBESITY IN CHILDREN & ITS DANGEROUS COMPLICATIONS" streamed 11:00 a.m. on 1st June, 2020 @ https://www.facebook.com/BenhVienQuocTeCity.
