Today many parents are very concerned about the height weight problem in children. Parents will feel bewildered, worried and even stressed if their children are inferior to their peers in terms of height or weight. This invisible invisibility creates pressure for themselves and at the same time makes children feel scared when parents are forced to eat without science. So what is a good development and how to improve the height of weight in children?

What is Normal growth and development?

Children have different periods of development. For example, boys grow faster than girls until 7 months of age, after which girls will grow faster until they are 4 years old. From the age of 4 until puberty, boys and girls will have similar growth rates.

The size of the child depends greatly on the parents. Tall parents will have tall children and as a rule, "small" parents will give birth to "small" children. If both parents are not tall, then it is not a problem for the child to be "a little short", they will still develop and enter normal puberty.

What factors affect a child's growth?

Nutrition, genetic factors and hormones all affect a child's growth. The cause of delayed growth may be due to improper nutrition or a disorder.

Cause

Children with growth problems can have many causes, the following are some common reasons:

If a child develops at a normal rate but still younger than age, it is called physical retardation. The reason may be because children with "bone age" develop more slowly than "age". In this case, puberty may be delayed until the skeleton grows up. Often these children will have relatives or relatives who face the same situation

If your child has a lower weight and height than his age, he may be malnourished. A common cause is a child having a feeding problem or a poor diet. In addition, this could be a sign of other problems such as infection, gastrointestinal abnormalities, or the child may be neglected or mistreated.

Hormone problems: a significant increase or decrease in a hormone is also a cause of growth disorders in the first 10 years. For example, children with hypothyroidism will not produce enough hormones necessary for bone growth.

Chronic illness: This is also one of the causes of growth retardation in children. Some common chronic diseases are: asthma, congenital heart disease, chronic kidney failure. Children with neuromuscular disease, cleft palate, or some mental problems will also lead to poor feeding.

Other causes include genetic disorders (such as Turner syndrome), infections during pregnancy, tobacco use and alcohol during pregnancy.

How do you know if a child has growth retardation?

If you suspect your child has a growth problem, you may want to take your child to a health facility that specializes in pediatrics. You should also regularly record your child's weight and height to check growth.

If necessary, your baby may have some blood tests to check the function of some organs as well as some special tests to check hormone levels, radiography of the wrist to measure the Bone growth with age.

Treatment

The treatment depends a lot on the cause. Malnourished children need diets rich in calories, hormone-deficient children need to use more hormones under the guidance of a doctor.

Parents should not be too worried when comparing their children to peers. Each child is a different developmental process: some babies grow slowly at one stage but excel at another. In addition to adjusting the scientific diet, parents need to take their children to the Pediatric Clinic for examination by the doctor and appropriate treatment.
