Seasonal weather (changing from strong sunlight to cold rain) and back-to-school season are favorable conditions for many pathogens to arise, especially respiratory diseases, most often seasonal flu.

Pediatrician Nguyen Bach Hue, II, MD - Head of Pediatrics and Neonatal Intensive Care at City International Hospital said that the signs of flu are fever, headache, body aches, runny nose, sore throat, tiredness and cough. Particularly for children may have more digestive disorders: nausea, diarrhea ... Seasonal flu progresses benign but without proper treatment easy complications.

How can I help keep my child from getting ill? ? Dr. Hue advised: children should rest, drink plenty of water, control the temperature to prevent children from high fever, take fever-reducing medicines promptly...

Stopping the spread of infection

If you develop a respiratory tract infection, it is important to take steps to prevent spreading the infection to other people. These steps are outlined below.

  • Washing your hands regularly and thoroughly, particularly after touching your nose or mouth, and before handling food.
  • Sneezing and coughing into tissues. This will help prevent the virus-containing droplets from your nose and mouth entering the air where they can infect others. Throw away used tissues immediately, then wash your hands.
  • Do not share cups or kitchen utensils with others. Use your own cup, plates and cutlery at mealtimes. These are safe for others to use again after washing them in the usual way.

Vaccinations

There are currently three vaccines available  - two for pneumonia and one for the flu - that can provide protection against these two respiratory tract infections.

When should I call my child’s healthcare provider?

  • Contact your child’s healthcare provider right away if your child has:
  • A fever of 100.4°F (38°C) or higher, or as directed by the healthcare provider
  • Symptoms those last more than 10 days
  • Symptoms that don't get better after taking over-the-counter medicines
