Patient NB (61 years old, Cambodian) were diagnosed with colorectal cancer by City International Hospital doctors (Ho Chi Minh City) and had surgery to remove the left colon segment containing tumor weighing 1 kg.
According to family member of patient B., before finding out the disease, Patient. B. had no obvious symptoms. 3 months earlier, Patient. B. ate sour or often suffered from abdominal cramps, sometimes with constipation but unclear. After that, the patient lost weight very quickly (lost 15 kg in 3 months), so he was worried that he would have malignant colon cancer (cancer).
Similarly, a female patient L.T.L (55 years old, living in Binh Duong) also had to remove 3 polyps in the colon by laparoscopy, to avoid the risk of polyps developing into cancer.
The patient only had the initial symptoms of frequent heartburn but all activities, eating and drinking normally, so she thought that her stomach would recur. Only when she lost a lot of weight and had bloody bowel movements did she see a doctor. Endoscopy results normal but colorectal colorectal.
According to Dr. Nguyen Bao Xuan Thanh specialist level 1(Gastroenterology, City International Hospital), colon cancer progresses slowly and metastases later than other types of cancer. If detected and operated early when the cancer is new in the mucosa, the 5-year survival rate is 80-90%.
In Vietnam, patients often discover the disease very late, so the survival rate over 5 years is very low.

Up to 80% of patients with colorectal cancer come from polyps. The bigger the colon polyps, the higher the risk of cancer.
Therefore, in order to detect colon cancer early, people should pay attention to regular health checkups to screen and detect abnormalities of the body early. In particular, patients over the age of 50, who have symptoms of abdominal pain, change in bowel habits, bloody stool, flatness, abnormal weight loss should see a specialist for colonoscopy to screen for colon cancer.
