Physical therapy after artificial hip joint replacement surgery

Day 1 and 2 after surgery:

  • Practice sitting in bed.
  • Practice breathing and back pat.
  • Exercise muscle tone quadriceps on both sides.
  • Passive movement of the hip and knee joints in the surgery.
  • Active movement of hip and knee joints without surgery.

Day 3 to 5:

  • Continue practicing as in day 1 and 2.
  • Practice standing up, sitting down with frames.
  • Learn to walk with partial weight on the surgical leg, with the aid of a frame and support.

Patients regain normal mobility if they exercise proper physical therapy according to the doctor's instructions

 

Day 6 after of discharge:

  • Keep going with the frame, with no supporters.
  • Going to bear increased weight on the operating leg.

A month after surgery:

  • Go without the help of the bracket.
  • Gradually increase your walking distance following general health.
