John L. Lucas, MD, MPH, FACPE is board certified in Family and Preventive Medicine and a Fellow of the American College of Physician Executives more than 35 years’ experience directing leadership teams in American health systems and insurance settings. Dr. Lucas is a results oriented and innovative physician leader who from the early stages of his career led medical groups where he also served as a medical practitioner and pioneer in developing new models for preventive medicine and primary care.

Summary Statement

As his administrative career evolved, he served in increasingly complex leadership roles in large integrated health systems, where he became a pioneer in disease management and the development of care models for common chronic diseases. Later in his career, Dr. Lucas served as Chief Executive Officer of three community hospitals where he led their transformation into successful regional health systems with large employed physician practices and provider-owned health insurance plans.

Dr. Lucas has served as a director on numerous boards of hospitals, physician groups and health insurance companies including Ascension Health, CIGNA and the Malcolm Baldrige Board of Examiners.

The common theme throughout this professional journey has been to work with physicians to promote a collaborative; evidence based and coordinated approach to providing affordable, high quality health care with a focus on guiding and respecting the care choices of each patient being served.

Dr. Lucas retired from his last CEO position to fulfill his dream of returning to international care as an advisor to investors and institutions wanting to adopt advanced management standards and international clinical protocols. To add to his expertise Dr. Lucas became a Joint Commission International surveyor and a Malcolm Baldrige examiner. Dr. Lucas was invited to join FV Hospital where he played an instrumental role in their becoming the first JCI accredited hospital in Ho Chi Minh City. He continues to serve as the organization’s medical director responsible for physician services and operations.

Dr. Lucas continues to serve as a consultant for health care organizations undertaking transformative changes necessary for sustainability in emerging and competitive markets. He has founded two new businesses providing digital and genomic services. His leadership skills, depth of professional experience and track record for successful innovation serve to positively assist organizations initiating large scale change projects to improve patient services and outcomes.

2015 - 2017: Physician Executive - Far East Medical Vietnam
